How the compressor works

  1. 1. Add a pictureDrop a JPG, PNG or WebP onto the page, or pick one from your device.
  2. 2. Set quality and sizeThe preview updates as you move the slider. Both file sizes stay on screen.
  3. 3. Download onceSave the smaller file. The original on your device is left untouched.

When a smaller image helps

Large photos slow down a page and eat a phone data plan. A compressor redraws the picture with fewer bytes while keeping it clear enough for a blog, a menu, or a product card.

JPEG and WebP respond to the quality slider: a lower number means a smaller file and a softer image. PNG keeps every pixel, so its size drops mainly when you shorten the longest side. WebP is often the smallest choice for photos that will be published on a site.

ResizeImageShrink is one tool in a free browser collection. The work happens with the Canvas API on your own device, so a private snapshot does not have to travel to someone else's computer.

Questions

Do my images get uploaded?

No. The file is read and compressed in your browser. ResizeImageShrink's server never receives the picture.

Which formats can I compress?

JPG, PNG and WebP. You can keep the same format or switch the download to JPEG, WebP or PNG.

Why did a PNG not get smaller when I lowered quality?

PNG does not throw away visual detail the way JPEG does. Shorten the longest side, or export as JPEG or WebP, to cut the file size.

Is the tool free, and do I need an account?

It is free. There is no sign-up, no login, and no payment.

Will the photo look worse?

Lower JPEG or WebP quality removes some detail to save space. Compare the two previews and raise the slider if the result looks too soft.

Can I use it on a phone?

Yes. The page stacks the before and after views on a narrow screen, and the download button stays easy to tap.
